On our vacation Christy and I went to see Rifle Falls State Park in Colorado. The falls are beautiful and I felt the powerful presence of God sitting at the base. I also discovered that if you sit at the base of a falls, every tourist that passes will ask you to take their picture.
I was amazed that many tourists stopped first to look at the sparkling stream fed by the falls. The stream was beautiful, but it does not compare with the breathtaking falls. I wanted to call out to them, “Hey! Look up! You are missing out on the stunning source of the stream.” Then as I sat there, God spoke to my heart with the same message.
Hey! Look up! Too many people are looking down more than up and miss out on the stunning source of all the wonders of this world. I heard that message and it struck home. God’s message is to us all.
We get too preoccupied with the routine of life and miss out on the amazing things that God is doing in our world. We get distracted by the negativity and problems, and overlook the beauty and goodness that is all around us. We focus on the wrong things, and participate in them as well.
We have the potential and purpose to continue God’s work beautifying our world. Our sin and self-centeredness clouds the life giving water of God from flowing out to bring energy and life. If we want a better world, the answer is in our heart and hands.
Let’s look up! See God working in our world, and join God making this world better. Let the wonder and beauty inspire us to reflect God’s amazing love to all. We are part of God’s glorious creation too.
Look up and love! God is counting on us. I will see you in church, and remember, God loves us more than we can ever imagine, and I love you too.
