Christy and I recently added a new member to our family. Kefir is a blue smoke Siberian kitten. He is a bundle of energy and joy, and if he is not playing, he is sleeping or cuddling with us as seen in the picture.
He loves to play with us and our dog Stormy. He plays with such delight and liveliness that it warms our hearts, and then suddenly he stops and curls up for a nap. He is very interactive and a constant companion. He follows us around the house and is always curious about what we are doing. We have never had a cat so focused on connecting and communing with us.
His passion to join us and relate to us reminds me of the warmth and love of God. God’s spirit is our constant companion whether we are at work, school, or play. God wants to bring joy and love to our life, but also God believes in rest and renewal.
Then my mind went in another direction. What if we were more like Kefir and followed and interacted daily with God? What if we were more playful and loving? Wouldn’t we all love to have Kefir’s joy and energy for life?
What if we were more curious about what God is doing? What if we made God the center of our attention? Then on challenging days when we are weak and worn out we can curl up in God’s lap and cuddle with God for comfort and love.
Imagine a church or a world filled with Christian kittens anxious to laugh and play together! Our challenge is to lay aside our fears, frustrations, and failures and embrace the abundant life God promises. Kefir and I invite everyone to join us. I will see you in church, and remember, God loves us more than we can ever imagine, and I love you too.
